. They manufacture products which are used to evaluate the mechanical and physical properties and performance of materials and components, and have a growing business in the dynamic test segment. Core static tests carried out with this equipment includes tensile, compression, flexure (also referred to as bend), and cycling.

The company operates in 56 countries, has manufacturing facilities in Germany and the UK, and strategic headquarters in the USA and Singapore.

As of 2007 the Group employs 960 staff in its international operations. It generates revenues of approximately 135 million euros.

Zwick is a manufacturer of research testing systems, and its 'ProLine' machines are specifically aimed at routine testing of materials and components. It is also a developer of materials testing software with its testXpert platform, digital contact and non contact extensometry
Extensometer
An extensometer is a device that is used to measure small/big changes in the length of an object. It is useful for stress-strain measurements and tensile tests. Its name comes from "extension-meter". It was invented by Dr. Charles Huston who described it in an article in the Journal of the...

and has pioneered robotic materials testing systems.

Types of mechanical tests carried out on Zwick Roell testing systems

  • Tensile
  • Compression
  • Flexure
  • Charpy impact test
    Charpy impact test
The Charpy impact test, also known as the Charpy v-notch test, is a standardized high strain-rate test which determines the amount of energy absorbed by a material during fracture. This absorbed energy is a measure of a given material's toughness and acts as a tool to study temperature-dependent...

  • Izod impact strength test
    Izod impact strength test
Izod impact strength testing is an ASTM standard method of determining impact strength. A notched sample is generally used to determine impact strength....
