History
In 1984, Urvashi Butalia and Ritu Menon founded Kali for Women, India's first feminist publishing house. Their objectives were to publish quality work, keep overheads low, and ensure that not only the content, but also the form of what they published met international standards. Within five years of its establishment, Kali had become self-sufficient.
