Encyclopedia
ZeroTurnaround OÜ is an IT software company based in Tartu
, Estonia
, which makes productivity tools for both Java EE
development (JRebel) and production environments (LiveRebel
). In 2009, ZeroTurnaround received a Jolt Award for JRebel (known then as JavaRebel). In June 2011, ZeroTurnaround hosted GeekOut
Estonia, the first Java conference ever held in the country, and was awarded the 2011 JAX Innovation Award for Most Innovative Java Technology for JRebel.
ZeroTurnaround currently develops JRebel and LiveRebel
, Java Virtual Machine
(JVM)-based productivity tools targeting Java EE development and production.
JRebel is a mature commercial product designed to enable on-the-fly reloading of changes to class files, thereby eliminates the build and redeploy phases of Java EE development.
Based on data gained through primary research, the company has published estimates to show that redeploying in Java is responsible for over 10 minutes of lost time per development hour, per developer. By using JRebel, the company asserts, developers do not require redeploying the Java application server in order to see changes, but that changes to code are seen instantly.
LiveRebel
is a commercial product released in May 2011 targeting teams managing live Java applications in production. Where JRebel is designed to eliminate redeployment in development, LiveRebel is designed to eliminate server downtime when initiating updates to running applications, while still maintaining user sessions and preventing `OutOfMemoryErrors`.
