He began his editorial career working as assistant editor in 1969 of the Peshawar Times. Following that he moved to serve as the editor and unofficial cartoonist of the Frontier Guardian. This paper was banned under the government of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto but on the intervention of his friend Iqbal Burney he was employed by the magazine Outlook.
He was the recipient of an award by the All Pakistan Newspaper Society in 1984, he however declined to accept it from the then Military dictator Zia-ul Haq.
He was to later serve in several well known Pakistani newspapers including The Daily Star, the Frontier Post
