A reminder that the "red" in Simply Red indicated their political leanings, this song is an extended, barely musical and somewhat pretentious critique of the then Conservative Government and the Thatcherite politics they were pursuing. The song criticises the perceived selfishness, individualism and nationalism that typified Thatcherism as some people saw it.
