In 2011, after prosecution's action, a Greek parliamentary committee is investigating Papantoniou's criminal liabilities (bribery) as former defence minister over the purchase of four faulty submarines which the Greek navy received via direct commission to a German manufacturer (German HDV and Skaramagkas Shipyards) in a deal worth $1.8 billion.
