Yarra Valley Grammar School is an independent

The school was established in 1966 as Yarra Valley Church of England School, and catered for boys only.
In 1973, Yarra Valley Anglican participated in a then unique experiment, helping establish a Hearing Unit for the Deaf under the tutelage of Bill Robinson. Its premise was, and is, that deaf children should receive the opportunity to grow and develop with their "hearing" peers in normal classroom settings. Deaf students were (and are) encouraged to participate in all extracurricular activities such as school sports etecera. The Hearing Unit was an immediate success. It has since grown to encompass every year level. The Hearing Unit also has its own classroom facilities where students receive assistance with speech therapy, classwork and so on.
Girls were admitted to the two senior levels in 1978, and the school progressively became fully co-educational from 1993 through 1995. At one time it was called Yarra Valley Anglican School.
The school
has recently adopted a healthy food
policy, ending the sale of a number of unhealthy foods within the school's cafeteria

In 2006, the Yarra Valley Grammar celebrated its 40th birthday with many special events, including a whole school photo and an aerial photo of the students positioned to create the number 40. The school celebrated its birthday in a service at St Paul's Cathedral, Melbourne
