Club career
Yang Zhi originally started his professional career at the second tier club Guangdong Xiongying after graduating from their youth team. He quickly established himself within the squad in his first professional season with Guangdong Xiongying by playing in 26 league games. The following season he would play in a further 22 league games for Guangdong (now renamed as Shenzhen Kejian) and help take them to 10th in the league.
