Xie was the 10th ruler of the possibly legendary Xia Dynasty
,son of Mang (芒). He possibly ruled 25 years according to Bamboo Annals
.
He ascended the throne in the year Xinwei (辛未).
In the 12 years of his regime, the Shang vassal Zihai (子亥) traveled to and lived in Youyi (易杀), Zihai was dissolute so the leader of Youyi, Mianchen (绵臣), killed him.
In the 16th year of his regime, Shang minister Wei (微) led troops from Hebo (河伯), invaded Youyi and killed Mianchen.
According to the Bamboo Annals
, on the 21st year of his regime, Xie fought with the surrounding barbarians of Fei (畎夷, aka Quanyi), Bai (白夷), Chi (赤夷), Xuan
(玄夷), Feng (风夷), and Yang (阳夷). He won the war and all of the tribes obeyed his orders.
