History

In May 2003, with permission of the Chinese National Education Ministry, Xi'an Petroleum Institution changed its name to Xi'an Shiyou University. It was founded in 1951 with the name "School of Petroleum industry

in Northwest of China", and changed its name to Xi'an Petroleum Institution in 1958.

Departments

XSYU consists of 12 schools and 3 departments, offering 48 bachelor’s degree programs, 30 master’s degree programs, and 1 doctoral program. XSYU boasts 7 province/ministry-accredited key disciplines, 11 province/ministry-accredited key labs (research centers), 5 province-accredited quality courses, and 1 province-accredited model center for laboratory teaching.

XSYU has a staff of over 1500; 900 are full-time.

Campus

The XSYU campus has an area of 2,030 Chinese mu (approximately 135 hectares). It possesses RMB¥870 million worth of fixed assets and RMB¥190 million worth of teaching equipment, ranking among Shaanxi’s top universities in terms of per-student investment in teaching equipment.

Since 2000, XSYU has undertaken over 100 high-level research projects for various Chines agencies.

XSYU is active in international collaboration, having established cooperative relations with 23 universities or research institutes in various countries abroad. Under the Agreement for the “1+2+1 Sino-US Talent Education Program”, it has been training undergraduate and postgraduate students in collaboration with 10 US universities.
