Worcester (North) Parkway railway station
Encyclopedia
Fernhill Heath Railway Station is a prospective new parkway railway station in Fernhill Heath, Worcester
, England
. No business case has been developed for this scheme by any promoters at present, so the scheme is unlikely to be delivered in the short to medium term.
It would be located on both the Birmingham to Worcester via Kidderminster Line
and the Birmingham to Worcester via Bromsgrove Line
It would be likely for Worcester Shrub Hill to close, to justify the passenger numbers.
It would give the north of Worcester local commuter trains easing congestion on the A38. The close proximity to the M5 would draw in longer distance passengers.
It would not be anticipated to provide a major park and ride function, rather it would perform a local role if development proposals to increase the size of Fernhill Heath are approved in the forthcoming South Worcestershire Development Plan, which is currently being developed by the three South Worcestershire planning authorities (Wychavon District Council, Worcester City Council and Malvern Hills District Council).
If constructed, it is proposed that the new station would have two platforms on the existing double tracked line.
not far from the site of the proposed station. However, it was axed in the 1960s.
Worcestershire County Council's rail priority in the Worcester area is currently Worcestershire Parkway railway station
at Norton, so it not expected that a station would be reinstated at Fernhill Heath unless alternative funding sources became available from developers.
