Woolwich railway station is a planned new station of the Crossrail
rail project in London, UK. The station, which would serve the Woolwich
area, was not initially proposed as part of the route but was added after a House of Commons Select Committee suggested its inclusion and after additional funding was found.
A station at Woolwich was initially omitted from the Crossrail plans as the cost would have made the whole project more expensive and less attractive. However, after talks between Greenwich London Borough Council
and Berkeley Homes on how to find the £162 million required, plans for a Crossrail station at Woolwich were resubmitted to the Secretary of State and are included in the Crossrail Act
.
The station will be located south of the river near the Royal Arsenal
development (north of Woolwich Arsenal). The base structure will be built by Berkeley Homes.
