Despite being a very popular station during rush hour, saving many car journeys to Manchester, there are plans to close the station and move it further up the line so that it can better serve Stepping Hill hospital, though no final decision has yet been publicly made.

Service

Trains run at a minimum of half hourly towards Manchester Piccadilly northbound and Hazel Grove southbound, with many trains continuing to Buxton (hourly on Sundays).

You may see individuals "Train Spotting" nearby. This is common around the area, especially near the barrier crossing, due north west.
