The College have recently invested £14 million in securing some of the most up to date facilities in the country. The campuses at Carlett Park, Eastham and Conway Park in the centre of Birkenhead have been refurbished and have built a new modern campus at Twelve Quays in Birkenhead. All provide modern, space efficient and well equipped facilities. (Although the future of Carlett Park and the presence of Wirral Met in the south Wirral area is in doubt. As talks of a 'Supersite' being built in the Birkenhead area ready for September 2012. The College also hosts courses at several outreach centres.

College Profile

Wirral Metropolitan College, located in the north-west of England, is a state-funded educational institute of further education. It operates through three main sites in Wirral, two of which are situated in Birkenhead, at a walking distance from the town centre. Its Twelve Quays Campus, which opened in September 2003, offers state-of-the-art recreational facilities for students and comprises dance studios, modern library facilities, and art studios. The other sites of the college are also well equipped, providing the latest recreational facilities and educational resources. Next year, the management plans to introduce new sports facilities at the Carlett Park Campus, which will be accessible to students across all sites.

Further education at Wirral Metropolitan College is designed to prepare students for university education or enable them to acquire necessary skills in their chosen areas, such as engineering, accounting, business, and tourism. Additionally, the college also offers a wide range of English language course for students outside the UK, particularly those, who do not have it as their first language. Wirral Metropolitan College also has links with several other educational institutes and universities within the UK, which provides its students excellent progression opportunities.

History

The college's roots go back to 1855 when Birkenhead Arts School was launched. In the 1970s it merged with Birkenhead College of Technology, Carlett Park College and Withens Lane, which all originated in the 1950s. Wirral Metropolitan College was formed in 1982 when all the further education colleges in the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral
