, his only input into the game being to bowl a single maiden over. Best made a further appearance in the 1890 championship two weeks later, moving up to the opening order with Alec Hearne

. However, it was almost exactly a year before he made his next first-class appearance, his only appearance during the 1891 season.

Best made two further first-class appearances, both in the 1892 season, and the following year, played for a Blackpool and District team during an Australian tour of England, composed of twelve Australian players and sixteen for the Blackpool team. In spite of this, the game was a low-scoring affair all round, with Best scoring a duck in each innings.
