Early life

McCleverty was born to Major-General Robert McCleverty on February 11, 1806. On completion of a formal education, he was commissioned in the 48th Regiment in 1824.

Military career

McCleverty served in campaigns against the Maharajah of Coorg (1834) and in New Zealand
