Johnson was born in Kennett, MO. He moved to Denton, TX in the early 90's where he attended University of North Texas
and was a founding member of the band Funland. After Funland dissolved he formed Centro-matic as a solo project that eventually grew into a full band. Johnson now resides near Austin, TX.
