The Wieger StG-940 was an East German series of AK derivative assault rifles intended for sales after the-then reunified German forces. The StG-940 was chambered in the 5.56x45mm NATO
and as the StG-942 in 5.45x39mm M74 round. The weapon was not officially adopted but tested by the Bundeswehr
. It was developed during the last years of life of the East Germany, for export but also for their special forces (the STG-943 was known to be in use with the STASI).
