Rules in the Scouts

Complete the objective of the game. Young children may play by "non-contact" rules, where they are not allowed to hit other players. Most groups over the age of 10 or 11 play "contact" rules where players are allowed to stop the other team from moving (usually by using rugby tackles).

Setup

  1. Split people into four even teams
  2. Create four "bases" - This can be flour circles
  3. Place objects with different values in bases (Example: Traffic Code could be 80 points, tennis racket could be 50 points, football, 30 points etc. Make sure each base has the same objects in each base
  4. Allocate Teams to different colours and make them wear a shirt corresponding to the colour
  5. Get adults or leaders in every base
  6. Get adults or leaders to hide
  7. Get adults or leaders to hand out bottle tops

The Game

The game is split up into four rounds - each team is allocated a base to start. Each player is equipped with a tennis ball

and a life (This could be a bottle top or a button) The tennis ball is worthless to everyone except the player. A life is worth one point. The tennis ball has to be thrown underarm and must hit the person below the shoulders. Should the ball hit, the player has to surrender his life and any other lives he has captured and items / treasure. The person hit must return to a place where they will receive another bottle top. The person with the treasure and bottle tops should return to their base and give their treasure and captured lives to the leader / adult in the base. If the treasure is not in the base by the end of the round, but still in possession of a player, then the treasure does not count. If a person finds a leader and returns the leader back in time, he / she is worth 200 points. When returning a found leader back to the base, the player is safe.

Rules

  • This game is strictly non contact
  • Concrete is neutral ground
  • One foot in concrete/pavement and one foot on grass counts as in
  • At the end of each round, the points a totaled up for the round and each team rotates bases.
  • Underarm throwing only
  • No running on concrete
  • When a person is hit or treasure is captured from a base, the player has three seconds to run away
  • All leaders/adults are umpires.
