was leased to the Corporation of Manchester by the Whitworth

in October 1904 on a 1000-year lease for a nominal annual rent of £10. A statue of King Edward VII on the east side of the park (unveiled in 1913) commemorates the royal visit when the new Royal Infirmary buildings were opened in 1909.

North of the Park is Whitworth Park Hall of Residence, owned by the University of Manchester. It is one of the largest student halls in Manchester and holds in excess of 1200 students. It includes Grove House
