History

The company was started by Earnest S. Wheaton in 1945 as Clipper Van Lines. Originally, the firm had services in 22 states. In 1954, the company’s name changed to Wheaton Van Lines, Inc. Shortly after, Wheaton Van Lines expanded its moving and storage operations outside the continental U.S. to England, France, Germany and Italy. In 1972, it received a 48-state, non-radial authority, before becoming the first moving carrier in the nation to hold complete 50-state authority from the Interstate Commerce Commission
