West Port High School is a school in Ocala, Florida
and one of eight public schools in Marion County, Florida
. Founded in 2000 and constructed at 3733 SW 80th Avenue, West Port is the district school for Western Ocala. Formerly West Port Middle and High School, the middle school disbanded in the late 2000s. In total, there are 2250 students attending West Port High School during their current year of the 2011-2012 class.
West Port houses the MCCA (Marion County Center For The Arts) program, and has a well establishment as one of the more distinctive and successful high school arts programs in Florida. It offers classes in Digital Media, Photography (which includes photo manipulation), Technical theatre/stagecraft, Dance, Musical Theatre, Drawing and Painting, 3D sculpture, and Band.
---Qualified WPH students may accelerate their college education through dual enrollment courses. West Port is the only high school in Marion County which offers a full range of dual enrollment courses.
The West Port High School band program is under the direction of Scotty Vance. It provides a well-rounded musical experience for its students, its focal points are concert, marching, and jazz band, but also house a successful guard program. Since its inception, the band has received consistent superior ratings at FMBC and FBA MPAs. West Port's Jazz Ensemble 1 has gone to state and received straight superior ratings for the last ten years. Overall, it’s ratings are among the highest in Florida.
West Port also has subset an athletic department. Robbie Lindeman subset the athletic director.
Sports played are football, volleyball, golf, swimming, slow pitch softball, cross country, and bowling. WINTER- basketball, soccer, weightlifting,
and wrestling. SPRING- baseball, fast pitch softball,
tennis track, and weightlifting.
