Academics

Every year the 8th Grade and 7th Grade Teachers switch grades so that 8th grade Teachers teach 7th graders for one and 7th grade teachers teach 8th another. The school offers extended day programs for math, language arts and science.

Athletics

West New York Middle School offers basketball, volleyball and track. The basketball and volleyball are not co-ed but they split the seasons so that everybody could play. Track is coeducational. The uniforms used in these sports are blue, yellow, red, black, orange and green. They have a picture of a knight in the middle. These uniforms are used to identify the different teams.

Dress Code

The school uniforms for the year 2011-2012 is a black polo shirt with turquoise and white border lettering "WEST NEW YORK MIDDLE SCHOOL", the pants must be khaki. The school uniforms for the year 2005-2006 school year were white with the turquoise lettering of "WEST NEW YORK MIDDLE SCHOOL" on the top left of the shirt. The following year, the uniforms were changed to black and turquoise, though the eight graders are still allowed to wear the white shirts from last year. There are also purple shirts with yellow lettering on the back the same of the regular school uniforms (in big letters that take up most of the torso), but these are given out to students who forgot to bring their uniforms. The gym uniforms could be whatever you want but no belly shirts.

As of the 2008-2009 school year, students were allowed to bring in black or khaki pants, or jeans. Since students did not heed to the rules that stated that "All school attire shall be neat, clean and appropriate", as in not wearing ripped or baggy jeans in school, the administration decided to take out jeans from the curriculum. The 2009-2010 school year now only permits black or khaki pants. Only khaki pants will be permitted for the 2011-2012 school year. They can however pay two dollars on Fridays to wear jeans.
