. The station is being built on Sawmill Road between Hood Terrace and Railroad Avenue. Plans include 1,229 parking spaces, including 629 in a parking garage in a refurbished industrial building north of the station. Along with the station complex there are intentions to build an adjacent residential development of 325 units.

Groundbreaking of the station occurred on November 10, 2010 with the presence of outgoing Governor Jodi Rell

 and U.S. Rep. Rosa L. DeLauro held a press conference announcing that DeLauro had secured $1.2 million in federal funding for the project, and that that amount had brought the federal funding commitment as of that date to $3.2 million.

By June 2008, the design process was expected to be completed in April 2009, and construction was expected to begin in June 2009 and last for two years. In October 2008, the University of New Haven
