West Career And Technical Academy (informally referred to as West Tech Academy or WCTA) is a public high school, grades 9-12, in Summerlin, Nevada
located at the foothills of the Red Rock National Conservation Area. West Tech Academy opened August 30, 2010 with approximately 730 grade 9 and 10 students. At full capacity, during the 2012-2013 school year, WCTA will have an enrollment of approximately 1,350 students in grades 9 to 12. The first graduating class will participate in commencement ceremonies June, 2013. It is a public magnet school administered by the Clark County School District which offers specialized programs and college preparatory classes. Students interested in attending need to apply to the school and must select a specialized course of study.
WCTA offers the latest wireless technology and students are encouraged to bring their laptops and netbooks to school. Teachers and students employ project-based and scenario-based learning. This hands-on approach toward real-world learning makes learning enjoyable and relevant for today’s students. A partnership with Google is providing unique and exciting opportunities in digital collaboration for WCTA students.
