. The village is located in the southeast part of the town. It is part of the 'Elmira, New York
Metropolitan Statistical Area' and is southeast of the City of Elmira.
The village was incorporated in 1872.

Wellsburg is on the south bank of the Chemung River
and is adjacent to the Pennsylvania

was 1,107.0 people per square mile (427.4/km²). There were 261 housing units at an average density of 457.9 per square mile (176.8/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 98.73% White, 0.32% African American, and 0.95% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.48% of the population.
There were 243 households out of which 32.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.4% were married couples
living together, 7.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.1% were non-families. 27.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 3.10.
In the village the population was spread out with 27.6% under the age of 18, 7.3% from 18 to 24, 26.1% from 25 to 44, 22.0% from 45 to 64, and 17.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 101.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.7 males.
