The Alibi's strongest points are its "I saw you" personals, film reviews, entertainment guide and Albuquerque's first "alternative personals." Their yearly "Best of Burque" (Burque is a regional Spanish nickname for Albuquerque, pronounced BOOR-keh) awards, which cover everything from "Best Community Action Group" to "Best All-You-Can-Eat" to "Best Gay Bar," are arguably the most coveted retailer awards in the city.

The Alibi first appeared as a bi-weekly newspaper called NuCity, but was forced to change its name to avoid a legal dispute with a similar Chicago newspaper entitled New City
