WeVideo provides a cloud-based, collaborative video editing platform. The company has adopted a freemium business model and provides 1 GB of free storage with an export resolution of 360p for personal use. Additional storage and increased export resolution capabilities are available for both personal and commercial use.

History

WeVideo was founded in April 2011 as Creaza, Inc. by Jostein Svendsen (CEO) and Bjorn Rustberggard (CTO) with the mission of making video story telling and collaboration accessible to everyone. The Company’s platform technology is exclusively licensed from and supported by Inspera, AS, which was established in 1999 and is based in Oslo, Norway. Inspera is the parent company to Creaza Education, founded in 2007; Creaza Education provides a suite of digital tools for learning, including video editing, to over 250,000 users in grades K-12 in Europe.

WeVideo was launched in September 2011, changing its name to WeVideo to reflect the social and unique collaborative nature of the platform.

Products

The core product is called WeVideo, sharing its name with that of the Company. The offering enables users to upload video clips and photos to a private library, create a storyline and render it in the cloud. There’s no software to download or maintain. All video creation takes place in the browser of a flash-enabled smartphone, tablet or computer. Device independence means video creation can take place anytime and anywhere there is Internet connectivity. The Company has focused on simplicity yet affords robust editing capabilities such as titles, transitions, effects, music, and narration. WeVideo users can collaborate on video stories by inviting others to upload their clips to a shared cloud-based library. Video content can be used to co-create the same video or individual versions can be created from the same content. Once a video is created, it can be shared on the WeVideo site or published to video-sharing, social networking or other online sites. WeVideo’s proprietary technological approach affords real-time multi-layer playback in the browser without rendering time.

Reception

In 2011, WeVideo was awarded the DEMOgod award at the DEMO Fall event, given to the top five presenting companies for the strength of their product, positioning in the market and presence at the event. The Company was also recognized as an OnDemand Top 100 Winner awarded to the top 100 privately held, cloud computing companies by AlwaysOn.
