Joanna was one of the dead. But she was brought back to life. That's when people start trying to kill her - good people - the last people in the world anyone would think was capable of murder. People who were already dead!

Plot summary

After drowning in a swimming pool at a party, Joanna Raitt is resuscitated by boyfriend Glen. Soon afterward Joanna finds her life in constant danger. She begins to believe that certain forces are trying to bring her back into the world of the dead. Glen thinks she's crazy so Joanna turns to her ex-boyfriend and Psychic Counselor Peter Landau.

Strange events begin to surround Joanna. People begin to stalk and kill her, she is nearly killed by a woman in a station-wagon and stalked by a super-strong assassin. Soon it becomes clear that death wants her back, the recently deceased begin to come and claim her. Assassins called Walkers. Joanna and Glen must confront four walkers before she will be safe.

Differences from film adaptation

There are several differences between the novel and the TV film:

-There are six "walkers" in the film whereas in the novel, there are only four.

-Peter is killed by the second "walker" in the novel, he survives in the film.

-Glen survives in the novel, he is murdered by a mugger in the film.

-Many of the sequences in the novel are changed.

-Diahann Carroll's character of Maggie does not feature in the novel.
