WRLR-LP
Encyclopedia
WRLR-LP is a low-power FM radio station that operates on the 98.3 frequency, based in Round Lake Heights, Illinois
. The format is extremely eclectic, as the station is completely administered and staffed by volunteers, including the on-air personalities. The station, therefore, hosts a variety of shows, most of which air on a weekly basis in the same time slot. One notable exception is the morning show (This Morning With Georgia Lee), which ran from 5:00-9:00am each weekday until her departure to WWW.WLCB.US.
WRLR is unique in that it is the only low-power FM station in Illinois that is not affiliated with a school or church, making it the one truly community-based volunteer station in the state. Though there are not live disc jockeys on the air at all times, when there is no one live in the studio, WRLR utilizes a computer-based music broadcast automation system to remain in constant broadcast operation. As of January 2011, 97 hours of programming each week are hosted by live on-air personalities.
