History

WRIX-AM 1020 signed on the air September 1, 1986 as the AM sister to WRIX-FM 103.1. WRIX-AM/FM was founded by the late Matt Phillips. WRIX-FM 103.1 signed on the air in 1977 and has its transmitter in Honea Path, SC. WRIX-FM was originally a Top 40 radio station. In 1983, the format was changed to Classic Country music. For many years, it was home to the widely popular Matt and Bev Show. In 1999, the format was changed to Talk Radio.
