. The station's studios are located in the Angell College Center on campus and the antenna is located on the Kehoe Administration Building, which is one of the tallest buildings in Plattsburgh. With adjustments made at the station in the fall of 2009, The Quake now broadcasts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, offering listeners a wide variety of music including: jazz, funk, soul, indie, punk, hip-hop, blues, techno and other genres.

History

The station began in 1966 with the radio frequency WSUP and was carried on AM 670. In 1969, the schedule expanded to nearly 24 hours a day. In December 1971, the station changed its call sign to WKGO and moved to 640/650 AM.

In December 1971, the station began a move to an FM frequency and became WPLT, at this point the AM channel still broadcast the station.

In 1979, the station began to air off-campus on 91.1 MHz as "The Sound of the North Country" and became a 10 Watt Class D (secondary) station. In 1981, the frequency was changed to 93.9.

In 1987, the station moved from McDonough Hall to Yokum Hall where the colleges communication department was located.

In 1997, the station sold the WPLT call letters to ABC's "Planet Radio"
WDVD
WDVD is a hot adult contemporary radio station in Detroit, Michigan, broadcasting at 96.3 MHz on the FM dial. WDVD's studios and offices are located in the Fisher Building near downtown Detroit. WDVD's transmitter is located in Oakland County in Royal Oak Township at 8 Mile Road and Wyoming Avenue...

, station affiliate in Detroit, MI and became WQKE, with that money they were able to modernize and digitize their equipment.

In 2006, WQKE sponsored the King Quakers dodgeball team. Corey Collins led the team to a first round overtime loss.

In 2007, WQKE moved their studio from Yokum Hall to the Angell College Center.

In 2009, WQKE started using automation software, thus allowing the station to stay on-air 24 hours a day, even when students aren't there to oversee the station.

In 2010, Pnal preformed in the quake lounge.

Programming

The Quake offers a variety of programming from music, sports and talk. Current shows include:
The Morning Show (8am - 10am)
A two hour block of music and talk Mondays through Thursdays.

  • The Point After with D-Rock (7:00pm)

Derek Pollacchi (D-Rock) gives you a look into the breaking news of MLB, NFL and NBA. As well as any other worthwhile sports news. Featured guests have been Bob Ryan of the Boston Globe and SJ Tuohy, the brother of Ravens Offensive Tackle Michael Oher.


  • Unsportsmanlike Conduct (8:00pm)

A look at the headlines of the sports week. Less serious than The Point After, with more humor and random occurrences. "Where our four sports minds are anything but sportsmanlike." It stars Josh Lattrelle (Daddy Toush), Derek Pollacchi (D-Rock), John Zayas, and Jeff Seymour. With frequent guest appearances from Zach Novick and Brian Smith.


  • The Word with G and Tommy D (9:00pm)

Greg Larnerd and Tom DeCelestino discuss what's the word in the world of sports.
