Stephen Olszowka died suddenly on February 14, 2004 at the age of 54. After his death, his
family made arrangements to sell the station to another owner the following year.

Following the takeover by William Hearst in 2005 (along with WKQW AM), WKQW-FM changed its format from Oldies to 80's based adult contemporary at around the same time. Though controlled from its Clarion County base, WKQW is still a very separate operation, maintaining its studio and office presence and its own independent staff at its original location: 222 Seneca Street in downtown Oil City. Oil City native Matthew Exley took over as operations manager in the spring of 2008 and is joined by the area's only full time news director Mark Heim and long time radio personality Sam Gordon.
