WFGA
Encyclopedia
WFGA is an American
FM radio station
licensed to Hicksville, Ohio
, United States, with studios in Auburn, Indiana
. The station broadcasts a Hot Adult Contemporary format with some Classic Hits
and Country
currents included, branded as Froggy
106.7. WFGA-FM is owned by Fallen Timbers Communications, a subsidiary company of Federated Media.
The station began broadcasting on January 25, 2002, under the WFJZ call sign (Fort Wayne's [Smooth] Jazz), with a satellite-fed Smooth Jazz
format targeting the Fort Wayne
market as a rimshot. Due to its poor signal in Fort Wayne proper, WFJZ was never very successful, and on May 27, 2005, with "Joy to the World
" by Three Dog Night
, the station debuted its current format and call sign after two days of stunting with construction sounds. Although its city of license is in Ohio, WFGA now primarily concentrates on serving the Auburn and Garrett
area in northeastern Indiana, where its signal is much stronger than in Fort Wayne.
In mid 2009, the station began referring to its coverage area as "Hoosierhio." This is an obvious hybrid of The Hoosier State (Indiana) and Ohio. In October 2009, the station began offering daily short-form video newscasts through its website, covering local stories within the immediate coverage area of the radio station. This product has been branded "Hoosierhio News Channel." Newscasts are written by Chuck Rowe, anchored by Woody Zimmerman, with Kevin Kreigh serving as Editor and Technical Director.
Construction of a new 500' tower was completed in Butler, Indiana in January 2010. The station subsequently moved its transmitter to the new facility on January 14, 2010 (city of license will still be Hicksville, OH). Reception has greatly improved in communities such as Kendallville and Angola, in northeast Indiana, Williams County Ohio and extreme lower parts of central Michigan since this move.
The station recently moved into its new broadcast facility and offices at 1153 W. 15th Street in Auburn, Indiana.
WFGA-FM currently does not broadcast any digital (HD) programming.
