station WYZM ("The Big Y-105") before becoming WBZU ("105-1 The Buzz") in late 2000, launching a 1980s music format with a 5,000 song marathon without interruptions. Over time, the station started to sprinkle hits from the 70s and 90s into its format, with an eventual emphasis on classic hits
from all three decades.
In May 2005, the station became WCHY, "105.1 Charlie FM," and adopted an adult hits
format very similar to the Jack FM
-branded stations, in that WCHY plays a wide-ranging list of popular music from 70s, 80s, and 90s, along with occasional music from the 1960s and 2000s. Pre-recorded voiceovers serve as the only continuity element on Charlie FM; no regular shift of live disc jockeys
has ever been used, aside from the syndicated Kidd Kraddick in the Morning
show, which the station aired from March 2009 to May 2010, when the show was dropped for a return to a music-intensive morning drive. "Charlie FM" also features commercial-free music blocks every morning (8-11AM) and "No-Repeat Work Weeks'" in which no song is repeated for the entire 9AM-5PM Monday-thru-Friday work week.
