Volcano Number
Encyclopedia
The Volcano Number is a hierarchical geographical systematic system to uniquely identify and tag volcanoes and volcanic features on Earth.

The VNUM was developed by the Catalog of Active Volcanoes of the World Project by IAVCEI  in the late 1930s and is currently administered by the Global Volcanism Program at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington (USA), in cooperation with the International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth's Interior (IAVCEI, a sub-entity of IUGG), and the World Organization of Volcano Observatories (WOVO, a commission of IAVCEI).
