Virgaviridae
Encyclopedia
Virgaviridae is a family of positive single stranded RNA virus
es that infect plants. All virons in this family are rod shaped. There are currently six genera in this family.
The name of the family is derived from the Latin word virga (rod).
The virons in this family are non enveloped, rigid helical rods with a helical symmetry, ~20-25 nanometers in diameter with a central 'canal'. Depending on the genus the genome may be in one, two or three segments.
