Violence can occur in the America

through many incidents including pitchers intentionally hitting a player with the ball (see hit by pitch
), a grudge between a pitcher and a hitter, a rivalry between the two teams in the match up, or a play at a base thought of as unnecessarily rough. Any of these actions may result in the offensive player "charging the mound
", or charging at the pitcher after the incident to provoke a fight. An escalated situation may also result in a bench-clearing brawl
, in which players from both teams leave their respective dugout
s and bullpen
s to join the fight on the field. The act of hitting a batter with a pitch to provoke a fight is illegal in the sport, stated in the official Major League baseball rulebook, section 8.02: "The pitcher shall not intentionally pitch at the batter...If, in the umpire's judgment, such a violation occurs, the umpire may elect either to: Expel the pitcher, or the manager and the pitcher, from the game...To pitch at a batter's head is unsportsmanlike and highly dangerous. It should be and is — condemned by everybody. Umpires should act without hesitation in enforcement of this rule." The rulebook also condemns other violent acts in section 9.01: "Each umpire has authority to disqualify any player, coach, manager or substitute for objecting to decisions or for unsportsmanlike conduct or language, and to eject such disqualified person from the playing field. If an umpire disqualifies a player while a play is in progress, the disqualification shall not take effect until no further action is possible in that play."
