Vinagre is a VNC
client for the GNOME
desktop environment
. It was included in GNOME 2.22. It has several features, like the ability to connect to multiple servers simultaneously and switch between them by tabs
, VNC servers browsing and bookmarking. In version 2.29 Vinagre added controlling frame compression, better scaling and color depth
. In version 2.30 it added establishing better SSH tunnel support and better support for copy/paste features between client and server.
The latest version 3.0 will be the one used with Gnome 3.0. Features like frame rate
, File Transfer and Audio Support are not yet available.
Vinagre has been included in the default installation as the official VNC client for Gnome, and is the default program used for the Shared Desktop option offered by the Empathy
instant-messaging client. Its default server is Vino

Future versions of Vinagre are planned to include the ability to connect to Windows-based machines using RDP
