Vilangan Hills

Vilangan Hills or Vilangan Kunnu, is a 50 acres (20.2 ha) beautiful green hillock located 5 km from the Thrissur
city of Kerala
state in India
. It is a popular picnic spot and recreation centre among the youngsters and old. The hill, which is covered in thick bush, gives a panoramic view of the whole Thrissur
city from the top. From the top of the hill, one could have the marvellous sight of thousands of acres of green paddy fields intercepted by water-filled kole lands, streams and verdant villages below.
District Tourism Promotion Council has converted hills into an amusement park and at present is maintained by Thrissur Municipal Corporation
. The road to uphill is narrow and caution should be maintained at every point, especially during the rainy season when the hill is at its scenic best. The visitors should pay an entry fee at the check post of the Vilangan Hills.
Government is developing this hill into an important eco-tourism centre. On completion of the project, the hill would be a green lung for the congested Thrissur city. Already organic fencing of the 1800-metre road up to the top of the hill and planted over 600 mango trees to prevent soil erosion. The Government and the Thrissur
District Tourism Promotion Council is covering the hill with greenery by planting perennial fruit trees in order to attract different species of birds to make it a mini-bird sanctuary. The hill is already the perch of around two dozen peacocks. The lush green hill with fruit trees and various species of birds could be an important eco-tourism spot near the Thrissur city. An added attraction for tourists to the hill is the scenic beauty one could enjoy from the hill-top spread over a plain area of more than 10 acres (4 ha).

The Vilangan Hills has an open-air theatre as well as a park with amusement rides specially designed for children. On top of the hill, there is an common where one can relax and enjoy the view.
