Veruthe Oru Bharya is a 2008 Malayalam film directed by Akku Akbar; starring Jayaram
and Gopika
in the lead roles. This film was a comeback film for Jayaram as his films struggled at the box office for about five years.
Bindu does all these and more, but there's never a word of appreciation or a compliment from her husband. He doesn't even acknowledge the work that she is doing without any rest in her life. This often results in quarrels between them, but like any docile and loving wife, Bindu learns to live with it.
Sugunan is also indifferent (and possibly hostile) to Bindus family - even though her father makes many attempts to get close to him. Bindu is angry, but still remains with Sugunan even when he has the power supply to Bindus fathers house shut down since they were overdrawing power from the electrical grid, during Bindus' brothers wedding.
Later, during a trip to Kodaikkanal, Sugunan doesn't allow Bindu to have a good time. Sugunan's indifference when Bindu's mom dies makes her disillusioned about her husband and she is upset since then. But then one day Sugunan slaps her and she decides enough is enough and goes back to her fathers house.
After this the movie deteriorates as it prey's on the morally repressed middle-class of Kerala. A mobile phone is shown as the source of all evil because the daughter in this movie talks to boys with it. The film essentially drives home the point that everything modern is evil with contrived situations that ultimately drive home the point that a woman' security and identity is her husband.
The story ends with a message that a woman should bear everything thrown at her with everyone from her father, to the police officer played by Rahman and the psychologist dishing out advice that is positively dangerous if followed. The estranged couple finally make up and the movie rushes to the climax where the three are reunited and live happily ever after.

Story
Sugunan is the steoreotypical husband who habitually under-estimates the role played by the wife in managing a family. Sugunan wants his wife only to keep house - cook food for him, iron his clothes, clean the house, look after all other activities related to his home.Bindu does all these and more, but there's never a word of appreciation or a compliment from her husband.
