Nucleus pulposus
Nucleus pulposus is the jelly-like substance in the middle of the spinal disc. It is the remnant of the notochord . It functions to distribute hydraulic pressure in all directions within each disc under compressive loads. The nucleus pulposus consists of chondrocyte-like cells, collagen fibrils,...

sequesters up to its full restitution

The word “ Vertebrorevitology” means vertebro ( lat. vertebra) – spinal column, backbone; re (lat. re – repeated action) – restoration; vita (lat. vita) –life; logy ( gr. Logos – word, knowledge) – science. Translating word for word the notion of "vertebrorevitology" means "a science giving the second life (restoring) to the backbone." Vertebrorevitology includes a few patented methods providing treatment of degenerative and dystrophic diseases of backbone, such as disc herniation
Spinal disc herniation
A spinal disc herniation , informally and misleadingly called a "slipped disc", is a medical condition affecting the spine due to trauma, lifting injuries, or idiopathic, in which a tear in the outer, fibrous ring of an intervertebral disc allows the soft, central portion A spinal disc herniation...

and postoperative recurrences of pulpal nucleus extrusion.

The author of this method claims that vertebrorevitology solves the following problems:

1. Removes load from the degenerating disc, keeping patient’s daily activity;

2. Restores the disc and its full nutrition;

3. Restores biomechanics of spinal column.

The method consists of the gradual building of certain biomechanical structure of spinal column to help activating reparation processes of intervertebral discs, affected by degenerative process. With creating of this structure reaction on muscles and ligaments takes place in a certain way. Joints maintain the mobility and it is important that such new position firmly anchors by ligamentary

response, it meant that they remain in this position for a long time after action. In accordance, vertebrae’s change position, creating resistance to usual stress. Thus, for the time, necessary for disc regeneration, the load on damaged disc reduces, keeping the natural locomotive activity of a human being with some adjustments.

Regeneration

Regeneration:

A human being have ability to regenerate same like animal but in a different way. The regenerative process in human’s body occures in different levels of organization: system, organic, tissue, cellular, intercellular. It happens by mean of direct and indirect cytocinesis, intracellular organelles and their reproduction. It is known that fibroblast

A fibroblast is a type of cell that synthesizes the extracellular matrix and collagen, the structural framework for animal tissues, and plays a critical role in wound healing...

s and its variety chondroblasts, osteoblasts, keratoblasts and others ( Gr. blastos means sprout, bud and it is part of terms, indicates on growing cells and tissues) have an important role in regeneration of connective tissue. It is also important to know the process of proliferation. Proliferation ( lat. proles – offspring and fero – to bring) – is the growing of tissue of animal or vegetable organism by mean of cells neoplasm (reproduction).

There are different kinds of regeneration in medicine: physiological, reparative and pathological.

There are also complete and incomplete regeneration. Complete regeneration (restitution) happens when in the process of reparative regeneration the lost part is replaced by equivalent special tissue.

Optimal conditions of regeneration, chondrocytes, chondroblasts

Optimal conditions of regeneration, chondrocytes, chondroblasts:

It is known that effectiveness of regeneration process determines by conditions in which this process occurs. Different factors can weaken, strengthen or change the process of regeneration: characteristics of metabolism, age, diet, condition of nervous and endocrine systems, blood circulation in the damaged tissue, comorbidities and etc.

The results of morphological, biomechanical (histochemical) studies(4) prove that the level of physiological regeneration in intervertebral disc tissue is very low because of low quantity cellular of chondrocytes and hondroblasts.

Chondrocytes are capable of long existence and functioning only in optimal conditions of surrounding by intercellular matrix Quantity of cellular elements of fibrous ring in its outer parts is about 500 cells per 1 sq.mm. of tissue section. However, the quantity reduces in transition zone to nucleus pulposus up to 40 cells per 1 sq.mm. in other words, the cells of nucleus pulposus are responsible for regeneration of intervertebral disc, but nucleus pulposus itself has the lowest quantity of cells in the whole body.

Nutrition of intervertebral disc and intercellular matrix

Nutrition of intervertebral disc and intercellular matrix:

Nutrition of intervertebral disc has an important role in this method. Intervertebral disc is the most avascular (without blood vessels) tissue in the human body and it is in zone of compressive stress of tens or even hundreds of pounds. Obliteration of intervertebral disc’s vessels is completed in age 4-8. And after a period of maturation the individual capillaries stays only in peripheral part of fibrous ring. Metabolites come in intervertebral disc by active diffusion through endplate
Endplates
In anatomy, endplates are the parts of the vertebra that come in direct contact with the intervertebral disc to form an article . Each vertebra has two endplates: a superior and an inferior....

.

It is known that only active stimulator of nutrient in intervertebral disc is its moderate load (walking). The author of vertebrorevitology method claims that it is important to understand that not due to the effect of static positions or stress but due to moderate load with natural, original method of locomotion – walking, begins active diffusion (flow of metabolites in the intervertebral disc). It happens after 15–20 minutes of continuous, calm walk. Human being should walk about 1.5– 2 hours a day (for daily nutrition).

Intercellular matrix has a great role in the method of vertebrorevitology. This intercellular substance performs various functions, important for cells and it is the main connective for tissue. The gradual change of intercellular matrix consistence radically alters functional properties of intervertebral disc and its biochemical strength.

According to the founder of the method, vertebrorevitology allows to restore intervertebral discs, treat disc herniation and osteochondrosis. This method is also very effective as preventive measure of spine degenerative disease.

The results of using of vertebrorevitology show high viability of cells and tissues of intervertebral disc and their regenerative capability in the disc areas, damaged by degenerative process, as well as reparative activity of residual cells of disc tissue.

Disadvantages of the method

Disadvantages of the method:

1. This method is not allowed to treat every patient with degenerative-dystrophic processes in the spine. Usually it applies at about 30-40% of patients, who want to try this method. The method does not apply in case of hard form of spondylosis and osteophytosis.

2. The process of regeneration and recovery of spinal discs take quite a long time: from 9 to 18 months.

3. The method can not be copied and only limited number of patients can use it.

Today the method of vertebrorevitology is still being improved and developed.

An example of applying of vertebrorevitology

An example of applying of vertebrorevitology:
MRI 1 shows the condition of lumbar spine (before applying of vertebrorevitology); in segment L4-L5there is a clearly seen degenerative process in the intervertebral disc with destruction of nucleus pulposus and reducing of its height; in segment L5-S1 there is a sequestered herniation of intervertebral disc with rupture of posterior longitudinal ligament, the absolute spinal stenosis.
MRI 2 of the same patient shows condition of lumbar spine after two courses of treatment with method of vertebrorevitology: in segment L5-S1 occurs absence of disc herniation, spondylosis, small part of hypertrophy of posterior longitudinal ligament (at the break point). But the most remarkable thing the specialists are interested in is that there is an active process of reparative regeneration in intervertebral discs. In intervertebral disc in segment L4-L5 occurs almost full restitution.
Note: as a rule the condition of disc is shown better on high-quality MRI due to the colour. Dark areas of intervertebral disc correspond to location of necrosis tissue (dead cells of chondrocytes). Light areas of intervertebral disc correspond to location of functional tissue (living cells – isogenic groups of chondrocytes).

Definitions of terms

Definitions of terms:

Reparative regeneration – it is a natural reaction to injury, characterized by increasing of physiological mechanisms producing specific tissue of organ elements.

Extrusion- (lat. Extrudere- expel, extrude) output of intervertebral disc contents (nucleus pulposus) out of the fibrous ring.
