Birth Place: Hon’ble Justice G.M. Akbar Ali, was born on 23rd November 1952 at Vallam, Thanjavur District.
Education:He underwent Elementary Education at St. Moses Elementary
School at Thiruvarur and High School Education at St. Antony’s High School, Thanjavur. He completed B.Sc. Degree at Jamal Mohamed College at Thiruchirappalli in the year 1973. After a brief visit to Singapore to look after the business of his father, he came to Madras and completed Law Course
and obtained B.L. ‘Degree during 1977.

Appointed:He joined the office of Mr. Habibullah Basha, Senior Advocate former Advocate General, Public Prosecutor.
He practiced in City Civil Court, Metropolitan Magistrate Courts, Small Causes Courts and in the High Court, Madras till 1982.
He later shifted practice to Thanjavur in 1982 and practiced under Thiru. R. Jayaraman, Advocate, Thanjavur for a brief period
and established independent practice.He was selected as a
Sub-Judge (Civil Judge Senior Division) for the first time in 1989.
'He served as Sub Judge at Chengalpattu, Thirupathur, and Vellore Districts. Your Lordship was promoted as District Judge
in the year 1997 and posted as Additional District Judge at Salem.
He worked as Chief Judicial Magistrate at Krishnagiri and
then as Principal District Judge till he was transferred to Puducherry and posted as Chief Judge, Puducherry.
He rendered remarkable service as Member Secretary, Tamil Nadu State Legal Services Authority during 2003-2005 and
during 2006-2008 for two terms.

He was also the Director of the Tamil Nadu State Judicial Academy.
During your his as the Member Secretary, State Legal Services Authority during 2003-05 and during 2006-08, the legal aid
moment got a quantum leap in Tamil Nadu. He implemented “Micro Legal Literacy Scheme” which is now being implemented
throughout the nation by NALSA. He was appointed as Member Secretary, NALSA,
and the first South
Indian Judicial Officer to be appointed and continued to hold this post
till his elevation as Additional Judge of Madras High Court on 31.03.2009.


Vallam has the distinction of producing the 1st rank candidate of the 1st IAS batch of Independent India-Mr.G.Ramachandran son of Shri N.K.Ganapathy Iyer.
