, India on April 12, 1928 as the son of Shri Bhanu Panicker and Smt. Bhavani. Beginning his political life as an active worker of students Congress in 1946, he became a member of Vakkom Panchayat in 1953. Later, he served as President, DCC, Thiruvananthapuram, General Secretary, KPCC and Vice – President, KPCC. He has been a member of AICC for over 25 years.

Governor of Mizoram

On 26 August 2011, President Pratibha Patil , appointed Vakkom B. Purushothaman as the new Governor of Mizoram in place of Madan Mohan Lakhera, whose term had ended, according to a statement issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan. Vakkom B. Purushothaman was sworn in as 18th Governor on 2 September 2011.
