History

The University of South Florida Polytechnic (previously USF Lakeland) was established in 1988 as a joint campus with Polk Community College (Now Polk State College). USF Poly serves more than 4,500 students and offers 21 complete undergraduate and graduate degrees through the areas of Technology & Innovation, Human & Social Services, and Applied Arts & New Media. The campus also supports a number of individual classes, electives, web-based courses, certificate programs and program partnerships with the main campus in Tampa.

USF Polytechnic partners with Florida public community colleges, including Polk State College, South Florida Community College and Hillsborough Community College-Plant City to provide a 2+2 education. Specifically, this partnership allows students to obtain their first two years (Associate of Arts-A.A. or Associate of Science-A.S.) from the local community college then complete their baccalaureate and/or graduate degree through USF Polytechnic. This collaboration allows students to obtain a four-year degree, as well as a graduate degree, without leaving their community.

Starting January 2012, the campus will be able to admit underclassmen including freshmen and sophmore level students.

New Campus Construction and Santiago Calatrava

In 2004, USF Trustees agreed to move USF Polytechnic to a new site and thus a new campus. The Trustees agreed to move the campus to the corner of the East Bound I-4/Polk Parkway intersection. In 2009, USF Polytechnic announced world renown Santiago Calatrava
