History

Uneeda humorously received its name after residents of the area came to F.C. Leftwich, a Madison attorney, with a petition for a post office to be named Jarrells Branch. This name was rejected by the United States Postal Service, who asked that another name be submitted. The petitioners found Mr. Leftwich tending a store for his father-in-law, Colonel Joel Stollings. While discussing a proposed name, one of them noticed a box of “Uneeda” crackers on the counter and jokingly surmised the name would probably not conflict with another post office name. The name was submitted and accepted. Uneeda's post office
