Twickenham is a borough constituency represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom
. It elects one Member of Parliament
(MP) by the first past the post system of election.
The constituency covers the western part of the London Borough of Richmond, i.e., that part of the borough on the north bank of the River Thames
(although the river is on a north-south axis at this point). It includes the town of Twickenham
, as well as the Hampton
, Teddington
and Whitton
areas. It also includes Hampton Court Palace
and Bushy Park
, and the Rugby Football Union
's ground, Twickenham Stadium
.
, the Boundary Commission for England has not recommended any changes to the boundaries of this constituency. The Commission received only eleven representations following the publication of their original proposals, of which ten were in support.

gained the seat at the 1997 general election
. Its current MP, Liberal Democrat Vince Cable, has increased his victory margins in each of the three general elections since, and the seat is one of very few in Britain that gave the Liberal Democrats a majority
of votes in both the 2005 and 2010 elections. Cable has been Secretary of State for Business since 2010.
