History

Turtle Lake Elementary school originally opened in 1895 to about 20 students in grades 1-8. The school was School No. 35, but soon became known as Turtle Lake School after the nearby lake. Because of low enrollment and outdated facilities, the school closed in the late 1940s.

After the baby boom and the post-war construction, a new school was needed. In 1957, the new Turtle Lake School was built on the current site of the school.

In the 1980s, enrollment went down again. However, the land was soon developed. By 1987, the building was only able to serve 3 grade levels. A 60000 square feet (5,574.2 m²) addition was then added to the building. The building is now 90000 square feet (8,361.3 m²) with students K-5.
