, enacts a United States law aimed at strengthening tribal law enforcement in order to remedy what some considered lax law enforcement on Indian reservations.

The law provides for enhanced sentencing under federal law, however if a tribal court chooses this option, it must provide public defenders who meet certain standards.

In addition, the law provides funding for preventative programs for alcohol and substance abuse treatments and programs for at risk youth.
