Faced with a $2.4 million budget crunch from the late-2000s recession, Arlington is considering closing the school. According to the Everett Herald, Arlington's Eagle Creek Elementary School several miles away "is about 200 students below its capacity and could easily take in the staff and students from Trafton." Trafton currently needs about $850,000 repairs and improvements, which would have to be funded by a bond issue if the school is to remain open; conversely, rolling Trafton into Eagle Creek could save an estimated $300,000 a year.
